The Spring 2018 meeting was on:

Date:  Thursday, March 22, 2018
Time:  4:15 to 7:00 p.m.
Location:  Joe Sippers in Effingham, Illinois.  Located at 114 S 4th St, Effingham, IL 62401
Our program was a 30 minute presentation about the Joe Sippers business from Kevin Hiatt, co-owner
Program description:  In 2005, my wife and I opened Joe Sippers Café to the Effingham community. The goal was to create a community hub via a coffee shop atmosphere and make an honest living doing it.  More than a decade later, we’ve gained invaluable life experiences: nine years of true mom-and-pop style living above where you work, parenting our four children, and learning the ins-and-outs of running a business to name just a few.
We have also gained invaluable professional experiences. Countless Coffee Fests and Caffeine Crawls have been vital to our personal education of the coffee industry. Developing relationships with importers, roasters, staff, and of course customers has shown us there is more to business than a great product. Altogether our accumulated experience allows us to build on our initial coffee-shop-vibe-venture.
Followed by a 30 minute presentation about the Effingham County CEO program from Kristy Sayers, Facilitator.
Program description:  Effingham CEO is much more than a textbook course. Rather, students are immersed in real life learning experiences with the opportunity to take risks, manage the results, and learn from the outcomes.  Learn about the history and development of the CEO program, its connection to local schools, and the importance of community involvement.  Facilitator Kristy Sayers, Class of 2018 students, Claire Gardner (Beecher City) and Patrick Tkachuk (Altamont) will participate in this discussion.

*Attendees received one hour of CPDU credit for the presentation through IBEA.
The presentations was followed by dinner and our EIBEA business meeting where the 2017-18 EIBEA Teacher of the Year award was presented to Dr. Julie Chadd from Eastern Illinois University.
See the awards page for more information on our award winner. Congratulations Julie!
